How to start loving your body

11/11/2019 / Louise Baker / Mental Health & Wellness, Movement, Nourishment / No Comments

When you think about your body which words come to mind? Which emotions arise and how do you feel? Are most of these feelings and thoughts negative? Did you think about how you wished that your body looked a certain way? Typically, most people don’t have a positive relationship with their body. They long to […]

Living in a van means frequent trips to throw out our trash. We are roaming the streets of Guerrero Negro on the lookout for a bin, instead, we find a puppy. She’s wandering the streets, her back leg held high and her bones protruding. I swerve the car to the nearest available parking spot and […]

Instagram post 2191720292651826075_271008282 I do not exist for your pleasure or gaze. My body is not a prize for your self-inflated ego and desire for sexual satisfaction. I do not dress or move for you. I wear this bikini to move freely, to feel the embrace of the ocean, to tan my skin & to empower my mind. I dress and move for me. I exist for me.
~ a letter to all who make a human feel uncomfortable in their skin, movement and clothing choices x
Instagram post 2185909200994348005_271008282 You are the only one who is in charge of your life, your choices and your actions. You can choose in every moment to heal & grow or remain stagnant, make up excuses and live through fear. It’s easier to stay in the fear realm but each day you can choose to step more and more into a place of love. Love for yourself, for others, for the world and for everything that comes your way. Everything is an opportunity to learn and the lesson is gonna keep coming around till you’ve learnt it. Think with your heart & gut, your thoughts are not you. Start shedding the parts of yourself which are holding you back & embrace the love that you are ♥️
Instagram post 2181485762552621084_271008282 Jacob and I have been having a lot of honest and open conversations and have come to some pretty big and scary decisions. It’s not always easy to admit what you need and what’s best for you, and that’s especially hard when you have someone else in your life. After 3 months travelling in Mexico together we have decided to go our separate ways for a little while. For several factors Jacob is called to return home and for me, missing out on seeing the Caribbean was out of the question and therefore we came to the decisions to make a mammoth journey across Mexico. We will have driven from southern Oaxaca to Tijuana in one week, here Jacob (and Guerrera) will cross back into the US and I will fly to Cancun for 2.5 weeks of sunshine and ocean therapy. The rest is unknown but we hope to settle somewhere for around 6 months and give stationary life a whizz 🌎. This decision was really scary and I’m filled with so much anticipation for my little solo journey, but I know that I am going to learn SO much from this experience and will be stronger for it. With that said, we will be enjoying our last few days together as a family and if anyone has any tips/advice/moral support to get me through this next adventure I would really appreciate it ♥️♥️♥️
Instagram post 2177231305774069998_271008282 I spent too long in cities and it started to mess with my mind. I was irritable & every damn thing was a hassle. My motivation was at a low and nothing inspired me. But it gave me the opportunity to understand the medicines I need in my life. Nature and sunshine fuel me. They ignite my passions and get me feeling real damn good ☀️.
~ Listen to what your body and mind are telling you.
• If you’re feeling stuck or lost or unmotivated or even if you’re feeling fine but not thriving, notice what situations do ignite that passion and do more of that & less of the other bullshit 🤸‍♂️ often times we’ll realise that it’s the simple things that have the biggest effect. You don’t have to spend a lot of money or make drastic changes to unlock your fire just listen to your intuition and do what feels G O O D ✌️
🌙 if y’all want to try any of the positive interventions I’ve been learning about Im here to help get you started on that transformative journey 😘
Instagram post 2174958806902448001_271008282 What is your relationship with your body like? For me years of high level running & social conditioning has lead to an unhealthy mindset filled with guilt, self-hating and disordered eating habits. While I’m learning everyday to heal and overcome this, it takes time and dedication. It’s a journey that has huge leaps forwards and huge setbacks but it’s one thats so important. This past week I learned about physical activity and body image reshaping as a positive psychology intervention and it really resonated with me. In my latest blog post ~How to start loving your body~ I talk a little about my history with a negative body image as well as some interventions and inspiration to help with the journey to complete self-love and acceptance! If you do try any of the interventions I mention I’d LOVE to hear some feedback on how they worked for you 💖. If you’re struggling through low self-esteem and body confidence, you’re not alone and it is possible to heal and step into your true light 👸🏽 Link to the post is in my bio and i have also created a free eating disorder healing/informative e-book that you can download (link also in bio)! Happy Monday 💛.
Instagram post 2174232677879037795_271008282 Our realties are largely influenced by our perceptions. How many of your worries and anxieties ever actually happen? Most of the time, doesn’t everything work out just fine? With retrospect we can see that the bad things were clearing the way for something new, exciting and happy. Life is our changing emotions, our tears, our laughter, our dreams goals and aspirations. Life is about loving even in tough times loving yourself and loving the journey 💖.
This week check out our latest vid where I continue to overcome my fears of doing new things alone by hiking solo to these ancient ruins 👸🏽 ~link in bio~
Instagram post 2168425787840417997_271008282 This photo is my reminder that I am capable of doing anything 👸🏽.
Looking after an injured puppy where I have to navigate vets appointments in Spanish and feed her stubborn ass antibiotics twice a day is proving to me how capable I am of caring for and loving an animal that is dependent on me 🐶.
I also have such a fear of doing unknown things on my own. I’m sure it stems from an anxiety of what others think of me but it stops me from doing new things without the comfort blanket of another person. Yesterday Jacob wanted to head home and I wanted experience more día de los Muertos activities. It was a battle in my head but I decided to stay in town on my own. I saw a lady painting faces and it took a couple laps round the block to build up the confidence to stand in line and get my face painted on my own. Then I continued to explore the town, alone, with this painted on my face. I felt so proud of myself (even though to most it seems like such a small task) that I managed to do this seemingly uncomfortable and scary adventure alone ♥️.
Don’t forget to celebrate the small victories and take the time to acknowledge when you’re breaking through anxieties and challenges 💪.
Instagram post 2163343449481612221_271008282 As you’re probably aware by now, we have decided to KEEP our little warrior. It’s been a challenge and I’ve spent many days worried sick about whether I’m looking after her injured leg well enough and how much food a puppy needs (?!) but she’s my little darling and her dorky play, stinky farts and overwhelming cuteness have brought a joy to the van like no other 💖 I’m so excited for her to get the all clear so she can come on all of our adventures and live the life she deserves. If you’d like to help me pay for her treatment the GoFundMe link is still in my bio or if you just want a bit of light reading head to my latest vanlife diaries link (also in bio) about the day we found her!
